| Posted: 21 Sep 2010 03:36 AM PDT Posted By SARA ROSS, THE PACKET & TIMESPosted 2 days agoThe Beatles are the sound-track to Bill Robinson's life. The Toronto man visited Orillia this weekend to share his passion with others at the fourth annual Orillia Beatles Celebration. "Since I was young I've always had a fascination with them. I've read all about them," Robinson said. "I've never stopped playing Beatles records; it's in my soul." His vast knowledge for the Beatles came in handy during the Beatles Trivia Decathlon. Robinson took first place and won tickets to see The McCartney Years perform at the Orillia Opera House on Saturday evening."The Beatles' music is so relevant. It's been 50 years since I first heard them and 50 years from now they will still be relevant," Robinson said. "I have grandchildren that love the music; it's timeless." Swaying to the music of Across the Universe, Kara Mancuso stands out in her heart-shaped sunglasses and outfit of brightly coloured layers. The 19-year-old from Richmond Hill has attended the Orillia celebration three times. "The Beatles just came naturally for me," she said. "They try to say something with their music. They talk about love and peace and those are things I believe in." The intelligence and wit of the lyrics is what drew Mancuso in. "They started off as any other band and they progressed and turned into something more than any other band ever could," she said. "They are just so inspirational," Mancuso said. Orillia Beatles Celebration event chair Pete Bowen was thrilled with the many unfamiliar faces he saw in the crowds along Mississaga Street during the event. "As members of the committee went up and down the main street there were a lot of faces we didn't recognize, which tells us there were a lot of tourists here," he said. "We feel we met our objective in that way." All of the downtown restaurants were "packed" Saturday evening and local hotels were nearly booked solid. Encouraging tourists into Orillia shops was achieved through a game that had event-goers enter 30 downtown stores in search of hidden Beatles albums, Bowen said. "It created an awareness for each shopkeeper's space of what they had for sale," he said. "The merchants that I talked to said it was a good day."
