| Beatles - Man Who Brought The Beatles Together Dies Posted: 17 Jun 2010 08:33 AM PDT The man credited with bringing the BEATLES together has died at his home in England. Bassist Ken Brown was found dead at his house in Essex, south-east England, on Monday (14Jun10) after a concerned relative raised the alarm with local police when the 70 year old failed to respond to calls. Brown is hailed as the man who kick-started the Beatles back in 1959. The musician played in the Les Stewart Quartet with a then-unknown George Harrison. The pair later left the group and teamed up with young rockers Paul MCCartney and John Lennon in The Quarrymen. Brown was later side-lined by injury and fell out with his bandmates in a disagreement over money. Harrison, MCCartney and Lennon famously went on to form the Beatles and Brown played with Pete Best, who was later poached by his former bandmates before being replaced in the Beatles by Ringo Starr. In his later years, Brown moved away from the Beatles' native Liverpool, England and opened a snooker hall in his adopted Essex. | Lennon Beatles lyrics could make £300,000 Posted: 17 Jun 2010 11:11 PM PDT John Lennon's handwritten lyrics for The Beatles hit A Day In The Life are expected to sell for more than £300,000 when they go under the hammer later, auctioneers have said. Skip related content The controversial song was the final track of the band's 1967 album Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which spent 27 weeks at the top of the UK charts. The double-sided sheet of paper features the lyrics - starting with "I read the news today oh boy" - written in capital letters, along with cross-outs and corrections. According to Sotheby's, the document provides a "rare glimpse into the Beatles' songwriting dynamic" with Lennon noting where Paul McCartney would insert his upbeat verses. A Day In The Life was banned by the BBC when it was released because of the line "I'd love to turn you on" which supposedly encouraged drug use. The track was also left off the album when it was released in a number of Asian countries. The lyrics, which previously belonged to Beatles' road manager Mal Evans, have a guide price of £327,310 to £458,235 when they go on sale in New York. | When tipsy John Lennon played Beatles gig in his underwear Posted: 18 Jun 2010 03:08 AM PDT London, June 18 : Late 'Beatles' singer John Lennon was once so drunk that he performed in an early 'Beatles' concert in his underwear - with a toilet seat hanging around his neck.
Sir Paul McCartney revealed that his bandmate was once over excited after performing three shows in one night in Hamburg, Germany - without realising the band was slated to perform a fourth one. An almost naked Lennon gave a drunken performance but McCartney insisted that the Fab Four were still disciplined compared to their contemporaries. "(There was) plenty of wildness back then, (but we were a) fairly sober lot compared to some of the guys. We were so knackered, working the amount that we did, that we mainly slept," The Daily Express quoted McCartney as telling Shortlist magazine. "Occasionally, you''d think you had three shows in the evening and after the third you might party down a bit. Then you were told you''d got four. So I do remember John coming on once in his underpants with a toilet seat around his neck," he added. --ANI
