| Yorktown man brings Beatles night to Kisco Holiday Inn Posted: 22 Sep 2010 11:37 PM PDT YORKTOWN — The confirmation that Michael DeJoseph is a true Beatles fanatic was evident just by looking down. DeJoseph came to a recent interview wearing a black tie with the faces of the Fab Four — John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr — stacked one over the other. The Yorktown resident refers to the legendary British pop band members by their first names as if he's talking about longtime friends. He even imitates the voices of each member of the musical group that has held his fascination since he first saw them play during a seismic shift appearance on "The Ed Sullivan Show" on Feb. 9, 1964. "The way they played the music, it was catchy. It was different. It was upbeat," DeJoseph, 55, said. "It just made me feel real good inside." Given his decades-long dedication, DeJoseph has decided to organize and host a new Beatles Music & Trivia Night that recently began at Teddy's nightclub at the Mount Kisco Holiday Inn. It's a recurring Wednesday night gig paying homage to the lads from Liverpool. DeJoseph, a banquet bartender at the Holiday Inn, said he knew Teddy's had a country line dancing night, a salsa night and a disc jockey night. "I'm saying 'Yeah, but you know, there are no Beatles,' " DeJoseph said. So he approached general manager Kevin Cottet about rectifying that omission. Cottet, who also couldn't help mentioning the tie, said DeJoseph's passion for the Beatles bodes well for the nightclub's new gig. "He loves it, oh my God," Cottet said. "He comes to the first meeting I had to put this together, and he's got a Beatles tie on. This is a die-hard to say the least." There will be trivia, videos and, of course, Beatles music. The trivia aspect seems like a natural for DeJoseph, who had his own Beatles column at The Voice student newspaper at Yorktown High School, where he was in the class of 1973. He also had a Beatles radio show while he attended Westchester Community College in the 1970s and counts 800 books in his Beatles library. He has almost read them all, he said. (2 of 2) "There's very few people that actually, off the top of their head, can expound as much Beatles knowledge as me," DeJoseph said. "I have yet to meet the match, but I would welcome it if I did. Believe me, I would not feel belittled by it, I'd be fascinated." In addition to his tie, DeJoseph came to the interview with a stack of albums including "Abbey Road" and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." He also had little packs of chewing gum in the shape of vinyl Beatles records. His mom, Thelma DeJoseph, said that's just scratching the surface of his collection. When she and her husband, Alfred, go to Europe, Michael will ask her to stop by a flea market to look for Beatles albums. "That's all we heard around the house," she said. "He used to play it loud (growing up)." DeJoseph said the point of the new Beatles night isn't to show off his knowledge. "What do I hope to get out of it? Satisfaction for bringing people together for the same love of the same thing and just enjoying either remembering, reliving or even learning different things that they didn't know before," DeJoseph said.
