| Beatles tunes, muscle cars and corn highlight fest Posted: 03 Aug 2010 07:59 AM PDT August 2, 2010 By NATALIE HAYES Contributor Beatles cover-band American English drew a large crowd of hundreds of people to gather in the beer tents and area surrounding the stage Sunday night to enjoy the last remaining hours of the 2010 Lincolnwood Fest. As the sun set on the peaceful summer evening, fest-goers relaxed with their families while listening to the upbeat music being played by the energetic band. Some played bingo at a tent set up by the Lincolnwood American Legion while others checked out the remaining cars still parked in the field from the Sunday Classic car show. Chicago resident Joy Olson enjoyed the summer evening with her mom and a friend on a picnic bench while enjoying the band. "We love the Beatles, so we were excited to come see the band," Olson said. "This is the first year we've been here." From carnival rides to traditional carnival games, a pancake breakfast, activities for the kids, and fresh cuisine from six different local restaurants, the fair offered something for everyone, no matter what the age group. Over on the left of the stage, the restaurants stayed busy throughout most of the festival, but were especially enjoying the extra business brought on by the popular band. "Sunday night has been the busiest we've been all weekend," said Pete Stavron, a Grecian Kitchen employee. "Overall, we've done about the same amount of business as last year, but tonight has been the best night for us." Favorite summertime treats, including corn-on-the-cob, watermelon slices, and fresh-squeezed lemonade were selling quickly at the food stands set up at the fest. The reminiscent smells of summertime -- cotton candy and funnel cakes -- filled the air. As the sun sunk lower in the sky, and only a few hours of the festival remained, eager kids scrambled to get one last ride on the Ferris Wheel or bumper cars. The more daring crowd waited in line for a chance to ride the zipper, a dizzying ride that features enclosed cages that flip upside down as they are spun around.
