A tribute to The Beatles will be featured in a monthly art crawl Saturday in Nashville. The Arts Company will have a 21st-century flair in a new exhibit, "The Floating World: A Tribute to the Beatles." It will feature paintings on tarpaper by Tres Taylor with embedded assemblages in each painting by Xander Booker.By choice of materials and self-taught style, Taylor's work is accompanied by a mini-iPod with earphones, programmed with that particular song, plus a small piece by Booker embedded in the heart of each piece.More than 20 art venues will participate in the event, sponsored by 5th Avenue of the Arts, representing a group of visual arts galleries in downtown Nashville.

TUPELO - The band wasn't actually there, but the Beatles drew an enthusiastic audience of nearly 1,300 to the BancorpSouth Arena on Thursday.

"There's no escape from the Beatles," said 24-year-old Jenna Britt of Tupelo. "I've heard them all my life. Everybody knows the Beatles."

"It's timeless, timeless music," added Dylan Britt, 23. "They're still one of the greatest bands of all time."

During "Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles," it wasn't John, Paul, George and Ringo on stage, but the music connected with young and old fans.

Video screens on either side of the stage showed black and white footage of the original Beatles, as well as shots of the "Rain" performers and fans in the stands.

People sang along with "I Wanna Hold Your Hand," bobbed their heads to "Sending All My Love" and returned "Paul's" scream in the middle of "I Saw Her Standing There."

Gwen Lescheck, who said she was "past the half-century mark," came to the show with her family from Selmer, Tenn.

"I don't even remember when I became a fan," she said. "It's been so long ago."

It was easier for her to pinpoint when her 13-year-old son, Willie, got hooked on the Fab Four.

"We started him out on the Wii 'Beatles: Rockband,'" she said, referring to the video game.

The Holliday family from Corinth also made the "Rockband" connection, so much so that 9-year-old Seth Holliday was singing Beatles' songs during the drive to Tupelo.

"He was singing 'Hello, Goodbye' when we got out of the car," said Seth's dad, Louis Holliday, 43.

"And 'Let It Be,'" Seth said.

His mom, Shannon Holliday, 39, asked, "Who do you look like?"

"Paul," he said, then added, "Beatles Forever!"

At 5 years old, Madison Case of Aberdeen wasn't quite sure about the Beatles, but she knew she was out for a special time with her grandmother, Sherry Case.

"It's just us tonight," Sherry Case, 63, said. "Girls' night out, right?"

KARA achieves No. 1 level of Beatles, TVXQ on Oricon chart

MANILA, Philippines — What do K-pop group KARA, Beatles, Michael Jackson, JYJ, TVXQ and Led Zeppelin have in common?

They are the only foreign artists that have achieved No. 1 ranking on Oricon's composite DVD weekly chart in Japan.

Five-member K-pop group KARA made history on Oricon for being the first foreign female artist to top the composite DVD ranking since it was established in 1999 with the group's "KARA Best Clips" DVD.

KARA's DVD was released last Feb. 23 and it has sold 132,000 copies in Japan, according to Oricon.

The girl group's total number of DVD copies sold erased the 10-year-old record held by Japanese pop and R&B singer Kuraki Mai whose "First Cut" DVD sold 99,000 on the first week of its release.

KARA's feat is a product of the group's growing popularity in Japan. Despite that KARA is facing problems with three members suing their Korean agency to dissolve their exclusive contracts, Japanese fans have largely ignored this and continued to support them.

Only six foreign artists, including KARA, have so far topped Oricon's composite DVD ranking. They are JYJ with "Thanksgiving Live in Dome," Michael Jackson with "Michael Jackson Vision," Beatles'
"The Beatles Anthology," Led Zeppelin's "Led Zepellin DVD" and TVXQ's "Tohoshinki Video Clip Collection," "4th Live Tour 2009-The Secret Code-Final in Tokyo Dome" and "Tohoshinki History in Japan Special."

Last January, KARA's first Japanese album, "Girl's Talk," achieved platinum status in Japan by selling 250,000 copies. The group's singles "Jumpin'" and "Mister" also reached gold status.
