MY FAVORITE BEATLES song is "Hello, Goodbye." I like it because it explains opposites. Yes and no, hello, goodbye.

Historic Beatles Landmark Hit By Fire was a top story. Here it is again: (Gibson) BBC News reports today that the building where Ringo Starr made his Beatles debut has been damaged by fire. Firefighters spent several hours attempting to stop the blaze at the disused Southport nightclub.

The club, formerly the Kingsway on Coronation Walk, was burning when fire crews arrived on Monday night.

Eyewitness Andrew Brown told the BBC: "The fire really took hold of the top floor and the third floor wall collapsed on to the road outside, [drawing] a lot of gasps from the crowd. It was very dramatic. The fire was really ripping through the building." - more on this story

'Beatles,' art, food at Knightfest

Dynamic image alignment 2

The inaugural Knightfest Saturday will feature 28 arts and crafts booths, 14 food booths, a full-blown carnival and last but not least, the Beatles... well, about as close as you can get these days to the Fab Four.

A full-fledged carnival, featuring more than 20 rides and games and operated by Trinity Amusements of Odenville, will be open 5-10 p.m. Thursday, 5 p.m. to midnight Friday and 10 a.m. to midnight the day of Knightfest. Saturday, you can buy a $15 band good for rides the whole day.

Knightfest proper will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Arab Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors Knightfest, has worked to make sure all of the food vendors are selling different things, so you could eat all day without repeating anything.

Unlike past years, all of the other booths are true arts and crafts, the chamber said.

Entertainment begins at 1 p.m. with Elle Claytor, a teen performer from Birmingham. The stage will be set up in the grassy area between the gazebo and Arad Thompson Road.

She'll be followed at 3 p.m. with a free concert by The Return, a Beatles tribute group whose performance of the Fab Four's hits here has stirred calls from fans as far as Georgia who don't want to miss the show.
