The drummer was welcomed into the world on 7 July 1940 in a house on Madryn Street in the band's famous hometown. The property first came under threat in 2005, when Starr himself spoke out against....

A treasure trove of unseen BEATLES and ROLLING STONES snaps and letters have been unearthed in a California woman's bedroom.

Patti Daley befriended the stars of the 1960s British invasion and collected the rock 'n' roll memorabilia they gave her, the letters they wrote and the photos she took.

When the friendships ended and the stars became superstars, Daley, now 64, filed all the memories away in boxes she kept under her bed.

Now, almost 50 years later, Daley has opened up about her collection for the first time, explaining she had amazing access to the Fab Four and the Stones because her ex-boyfriend, Jesse Ed Davis, was an unsung guitar hero beloved by the British stars.

She says, "When rock 'n' roll was really happening, everyone loved his (Davis') playing and sought after him to play on their records."

Daley travelled the world with her lover, taking photos of their famous friends wherever she went.

She tells U.S. news network MSNBC, "I just kept my Polaroid camera on me all the time."

Daley captured images from John Lennon's infamous 'lost weekend' and took some of the final Beatles band shots before they split.

And a handful of magical snaps feature Paul MCCartney playing a piano at Lennon's beach house in 1974, the former songwriting partners' first meeting after the break-up.

She even owns the handwritten lyrics to Lennon's hit Whatever Gets You Through The Night.

Daley has no idea what she'll do with her collection and she's open to offers - but she does want to share her amazing moments with fans.

She adds, "I feel very privileged to have met the people I've met and heard the music I've heard."

Beatles Tribute Band to Headline Lexington, SC Event

Posted: 15 Sep 2010 12:19 PM PDT

09.15.2010 –
Lexington, S.C. – It was a garage band rock and roll experience for Wally Steinhauser's 9th birthday party in 1964. The owner of Wingard's Nursery & Garden Center in Lexington was inspired at a young age by the arrival of the Beatles to the rock and roll scene. Steinhauser and a group of his young friends gathered badminton racquets and garbage cans to simulate performances seen on the Ed Sullivan Show.

"Many people had an experience like mine," Steinhauser said. "The Beatles really changed the music scene with their four part harmonies, good looks, funny personalities and cool guitars and drums. Once I saw them, I wanted to be the next Ringo Starr."

Decades later, the Beatles' music remains enormously popular. So popular that Wingard's Nursery & Garden Center is bringing back a world-renowned Beatles tribute band "The Return" to headline its 5th Annual Art In The Garden customer celebration on Friday, Oct. 8 from 7-10 p.m. The magical 1960's evening under the stars with the Fab Four will also include a silent auction, 15 local artists (sculpture, painting, metalwork and photography) and gourmet food by Dupre Percival.

Tickets are $35/person and are available at Wingard's Nursery & Garden Center at 1403 North Lake Drive at the intersection of Highway #6 and Pilgrim Church Road near the Lake Murray Dam. Advance purchase is required. For information, or to charge by phone, call 803-359-9091. For online tickets visit www.wingardsnursery.com.

Proceeds from the event support Lexington Interfaith Community Services (LICS) (www.liscsc.org). LICS, in its 31st year, is a non-denominational, non-profit, faith-based organization that provides assistance for individuals and families who are emerging from hurting situations by providing for basic needs and by creating environments which allow people to make hopeful life changes.

"If you've attended any of the previous Art in the Garden fundraisers, you know what a fun evening it is. It normally sells out and tickets will not be sold the day of the show," he said. "We are encouraging folks to get their tickets early this year so they won't miss out on this great event!"

Parking this year will be at Pilgrim Lutheran Church, directly across from Wingard's Nursery. Shuttle buses will bring music and art fans back and forth to Wingard's. The ticket price includes a Lowcountry buffet dinner prepared by Dupre Catering; beverages from Sam's Fine Wines & Spirits; art from the works of leading Midland's artists; a silent auction; and an energetic two-hour concert in the garden. Author Sharon R. Paeth also will sign copies of her new book "Lexington." B106's Tony Clyburn will emcee the evening.

Not only does LICS provide emergency services such as food, clothing, limited financial assistance and short term counseling, but it also provides monthly food assistance to the disabled and aged population who are living under the USDA income standards. Last year, LICS was able to put 99 percent of its funding toward providing food, clothing, furniture, appliances, financial assistance, counseling and service brokering to families and individuals living in Lexington and Saluda Counties as well as part of Calhoun County.

In 2009, LICS provided benefit to more than 23,000 people in the community in the form of food, clothing or financial assistance, said LICS Executive Director Jenny Kennedy. "Considering the population of Lexington County is approximately 250,000, that's roughly one out of 10 of our neighbors," Steinhauser said.

LICS has approximately 520 volunteers who help with assembling personal care bags, packing goodie boxes, conducting holiday food drives, volunteering after hours for projects as well as clerical work, sorting food, interviewing people seeking assistance and receiving donations for the Thrift Shop.

LICS' funding comes from donations, local churches and fundraisers, like Art In The Garden. "We know the need is great and your joining us for a great evening will help LICS continue to achieve its mission and help allow people to make hopeful life changes," Kennedy said.

Organizers of the event say it would not have been possible without a little help from their friends. In addition to Wingard's and several of its suppliers, many local businesses and churches will also be sponsoring the evening. Sponsors include Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Frank's Carwash, Burkett Burkett & Burkett, Fatz Café, First Baptist Church Leesville, First Community Bank, SunGro Horticulture, Taylor's Landscape Supply, The Free Times, Wingate Hotel, Bartlett Financial, BWI, Inc., Caring Healthcare, Inc., Chem Art, Inc., Columbia Metropolitan Magazine, Denise Thomas State Farm Insurance Agency, Inc., Hackney Nursery, Windmill Nursery, Kick's, Lexington Life Magazine, Monrovia Growers, Old South Landscaping, LLC, Palmetto Propane, Peggy Dart, Pender Nursery, Signarama – Columbia, The Happy Butcher, The Pottery Patch, Tree Care Services of Lexington and Waste Management.

Lady Gaga's VMAs meat dress link to Beatles

Posted: 16 Sep 2010 04:05 AM PDT

London, Sep 16 : Lady Gaga's choice to wear meat dress at MTV Video Music Awards is now being linked to the Beatles, for the band once promoted their album using animal flesh on cover.

In 1966, the Beatles released the album 'Yesterday and Today' and used a controversial cover dressed as butchers and draped in joints of meat and decapitated baby dolls.

In 1983 Punk group, the 'Undertones' released their singles titled 'All Wrapped Up' with a female model covered in meat whereas rock group B.A.L.L in 1988 also promoted their music albums using the Bird flesh.

However, the use of meat to promote music has remained controversial.

"Lady Gaga's job is to do outlandish things, and this certainly qualifies as outlandish because meat is something you want to avoid putting on or in your body. No matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal," the Telegraph quoted Ingrid Newkirk, the president of animal rights campaign group PETA.

"It just seems totally unnecessary. Enough animals die for food and they should not be killed for stunts like this," a spokeswoman for the Vegetarian Society added.
