| Beatles pictures sell for a fab sum at auction Posted: 20 Aug 2010 08:36 AM PDT INTIMATE pictures of members of The Beatles at their homes in Esher and Weybridge have fetched £6,500 at auction. The collection, which included George Harrison pictured outside his bungalow in Claremont Lane, and John Lennon and Ringo Starr at St George's Hill, went to an American buyer after a competitive telephone sale. The pictures were owned by Sue Baker, a fan of the Fab Four who managed to meet all of her heroes at the age of 15. She declared herself delighted with the amount raised by her collection. The money will go towards her daughter's wedding and reception at Mill Hall, in Newbury, Berkshire, in December. Events booked at Mill Hall support the Mary Hare charity for deaf chidren, and all proceeds from the wedding will go to the good cause. "As I said before, I only actually took the pictures down there to be validated, I had no idea they would go for so much," Mrs Baker said. "I was hoping for about £4,000 to £5,000, so for the whole collection [including other non-Beatles related items] to get double was very pleasing. "We thought the wedding would be a lovely way to spend it. "At least we know the money will be going towards a good cause." After finding Paul McCartney's address in a Beatles magazine, Mrs Baker, or Sue Tebbutt as she was then, travelled to St John's Wood in north London with a friend to meet him. He told them where his bandmates lived and they soon headed to Weybridge by train, walked to St George's Hill and caught a bus to Esher before getting a train back to London. Mrs Baker, who now lives in Reading, also managed to capture John Lennon outside his home, pose in front of George Harrison's car and get a note on which Paul McCartney scribbled their names and addresses. The entire collection was sold at Cameo Auctioneers in Reading on at the beginning of August. Spokesman Glen Norcliffe said they had more than 1,000 expressions of interest from people across the world in all music items on sale, which included Jimi Hendrix's guitar. "It was a great price amid some tight competition," he said. "Mrs Baker's items helped make it a very successful sale indeed."
