LANCASTER -- Signs of the 1960s abounded at the Lancaster Festival Saturday night. There were bell bottoms, tie-dyed shirts and the sounds of The Beatles.

Classical Mystery Tour -- A Tribute to the Beatles dazzled a crowd of more than 4,000 people at the Wendel Concert Stage at Ohio University-Lancaster.

The tribute band played many of the legendary group's hits, including "Hard Days Night," "All You Need is Love," "Penny Lane" and "Yesterday."

Martin and Ann Rippel, of Carroll, enjoyed the performance from a blanket at the top of the hill.

"I'm a big Beatles fan. My parents are hippies, so I grew up with The Beatles," Ann Rippel said.

She said her favorite song performed by Classical Mystery Tour was "Yesterday."

"It's amazing how they look and sound like (The Beatles)," she said. "I think it's great that you can have a band come to Lancaster that everyone can love."

The tribute band's performance was good enough to get Diane McAnespie to dance and clap along with the music.

"This is my generation's music," she said. "I think they sound good."

McAnespie said she has been a long-time fan of the Lancaster Festival.

"The whole concept of the Festival and everything is fantastic," she said.

Ricardo Kelly, 30, of Columbus, wore his Beatles T-shirt to the Saturday night concert. He said seeing the tribute band perform is the next best thing to seeing the original Beatles live in concert.

"Of course I'm too young, I couldn't go back to the '60s and listen to them," he said. "I can listen tonight and think I'm like at a Beatles concert right now."

Many people decorated their tables to match the 1960s theme. Lee Ann Hamilton's table, which was sponsored by Fairfield Center for Disabilities and Cerebral Palsy, included tablecloths with peace symbols and the group had matching headbands.

"Everything of The Beatles is the best; there isn't anything you don't like," Hamilton said.

Claudia Owens, of Lancaster, said she just started to become a fan of the Beatles because she likes listening to their music while making art.

"As far as timeless music, they're definitely the best," she said.

Saturday night included a performance by the Lancaster Festival Orchestra and concluded with a musical fireworks display.
