Posted: 13 Jun 2010 01:12 AM PDT TORONTO - A rare piece of Beatles memorabilia that was made in Canada is going on the auction block in Los Angeles today. It's a 14-minute reel-to-reel audiotape of a 1966 Beatles news conference recorded on Aug. 17, 1966 at Toronto's King Edward Hotel. It was recorded by a Hamilton Spectator journalist when the Beatles were in town to play two shows at Maple Leaf Gardens. Margaret Barrett, director of entertainment memorabilia with Bonham & Butterfields, says the tape includes John Lennon being questioned about his comment that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. The Fab Four also talk about the Vietnam war, the generation gap and the legendary band's possible break up in the near future. Los Angeles's Bonham & Butterfields expects the audiotape will fetch between US$20,000 and US$25,000.
